Community Conservation & Education

Connecting people with nature through education, opportunity and meaningful participation in conservation.
ABOUT THE PROJECT

Conservation is strongest when people understand, value and participate in protecting the natural world around them.

Through the Community Conservation & Education Programme, the Zaagkuilsdrift Conservation Foundation works with schools, young people and local communities to create opportunities for environmental learning, practical conservation experience and meaningful engagement with nature.

With a particular focus on the Kgomo-Kgomo community and surrounding areas, our initiatives include school outreach, environmental education, guided learning experiences, conservation talks, citizen science, youth engagement and improved access to the tools and experiences that make nature more accessible.

From placing binoculars in the hands of young people experiencing birds up close for the first time to creating opportunities for volunteering, internships and participation in conservation activities, our aim is to help build knowledge, confidence and a lasting connection with the landscapes and wildlife we share.

By investing in people alongside wildlife and habitats, we hope to help develop a culture of stewardship in which communities are not simply audiences for conservation, but active participants in its future.

Conservation grows when people have the opportunity to be part of it.
