ABOUT THE PROJECT
Wetlands are among our most valuable and vulnerable ecosystems. They provide habitat for extraordinary biodiversity, support waterbird populations, influence water quality and flow, and sustain both wildlife and people across the landscapes in which they occur.
Through the Wetland & Ecosystem Conservation Programme, the Zaagkuilsdrift Conservation Foundation works to understand, protect and improve important wetland and associated habitats, with particular emphasis on the Kgomo-Kgomo Floodplain and surrounding landscape.
Our work combines long-term stewardship with habitat and biodiversity monitoring, water-quality assessment, vegetation surveys, invasive-species management and practical habitat enhancement. Where appropriate, this may extend to carefully planned ecological restoration initiatives designed to improve ecosystem function and resilience.
By combining field science, responsible habitat management and collaboration with communities, researchers, landowners and conservation partners, we aim to ensure that these landscapes remain functioning ecosystems capable of supporting wildlife for generations to come.
